Are you interested in becoming an Uber or Lyft driver in New York City?
In order to become a driver in New York City, you need to satisfy specific criteria. These include meeting the minimum driving age, possessing a minimum of one year of driving experience, and successfully passing a background check. To apply, you'll be required to provide the following documents: a valid driver's license, proof of residency, and insurance if you intend to use your own vehicle.
When operating within New York City, you must hold a commercial license issued by the NYC TLC (Taxi and Limousine Commission) and have a vehicle with commercial licensing.
Here's what you'll need:
- Meet the minimum age (21 years old for both Uber and Lyft)
- A valid US driver's license
- Have at least one year of licensed driving experience in the US (3 years if you are under 25 years old)
- A TLC driver's license
- Proof of residency and a social security number
- Give proof of vehicle insurance, if you're planning to drive your own car
- Be able to pass a background check (in New York City, DMV and criminal background checks are conducted by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) according to their licensing standards)
If you are interested in driving for Uber or Lyft and think you'll pass the driving record check then your next step is to apply, remain patient during the background check waiting period, and then get to work as a rideshare driver.
